Using spackle on a white wall

mdhaworth by mdhaworth Journeyman(December 2007) (rank 2nd)
Here's a quick tip if you need to spackle nail holes on a surface that is already primed white.  If you just dab on the spackle and wait for it to dry, chances are, when you come back to sand, it'll be hard to find the spots you fixed and you may miss some.

When we were spackling our beadboard backplash we stuck a bit of colored masking tape at each spot we applied spackle. Then we knew exactly where to spot sand.  We left the tape on through the sanding process and then removed it after spot priming over the spackled areas.

This is really simple but saved the hassle of starting to paint and discovering an unsanded spot.  Does anyone have other ways they've address this small, but annoying issue?

Re: Using spackle on a white wall
Great idea. You could also circle it with some coloured chalk......rubs off easy!
