Kitchen Cabinet Choices

If you are remodeling your kitchen you have choices to make where your cabinets are concerned.  There are of course your standard solid wood door, glass doors or open shelving.

I had always had your regular standard cabinets.  They were always pretty disorganized and crammed full of stuff.  When I designed my new kitchen I decided I wanted open shelving for all my upper cabinets.  I love them.  The only drawback that I have come across is that you do have to dust them and if you don’t use all the things you put on them regularly you have to dust them too.

The best thing of course is the easy access.  All my kitchen utensils are at hand over the stove, my pots and pans are on the shelf above the stove-all within reach.  All my bowls and plates are easy to grab too and easy to put away after cleaning up.  In fact, the rack where I store my plates is a drying rack.

My shelving came from IKEA.  It was affordable and easy to put up.

The other bonus is that it is a nice display area.  I have several different styles of dishes that I rotate through for use depending on the season and different art pieces that I put on the higher shelves.  I just changed out my colorful summer dishes for gold dishes and blue and orange Fiesta wear and my cream dishes with blue and pumpkin design on the edges.  Nice fall colors.

So, if you are getting ready for a kitchen remodel check out open shelving.  You can do all open shelving or a combination of both closed cabinets and shelving.

Re: Kitchen Cabinet Choices
These look great; I love the open feel. I was too chicken to use open shelving as I tend to be a messy homekeeper and wanted to be able to close the doors on my mess ;)

Thanks for sharing your ideas and photos!
