Squeaky Hinges

ClayCook by ClayCook Refurber Founder(May 2007) (rank 11th)
OK I know this is pretty basic, but it's one of those jobs that I do all the time

Got a squeaky door hinge that is driving you nuts!?

Simple solution... just spray the hinges with lubricant like WD-40 and clean off any excess. And hey presto... you are done.

Re: Squeaky Hinges

Hey Clay.

One caveat to this solution. It does work, but it may have to be repeated periodically.  Wifey and I had to have our builder fix some doors in our house.  Over time they had shifted so the latch wouldn't match up to the frame so the door couldn't close.  The contractor put shims in the hinges to fix the door levelness issue, BUT over time it caused one of the hinges to squeek.  I have periodically had to use WD40,  but graphite also works.  Recently, I have removed the shims, which improved the squeek dramatically.  Of course, I have had to readjust the strike plate for the latch to compensate.
