Planning a kitchen remodel |

If you’re getting ready for a complete kitchen remodel with all new cabinets, appliances etc, it’s good to think through the order in which things need to be done before you line up contractors or order supplies.
Of course you need to start with a plan including a new design and appliances chosen.
Next remove your old kitchen, and make any changes to the walls or layout with new framing. Then, while the walls and floor are open, make any electrical and plumbing changes. Be sure to run the appropriate electrical, gas or plumbing lines for your new appliances at this time and don’t forget about running water to the fridge if you have an ice maker or water dispenser.
Hang drywall and check your wall measurements then order (or build) your cabinets. Next tape, texture and paint your walls. (you only need to paint walls where they will show, probably around doors and windows.
If you’re planning to have hardwood floors, refinish them now. If you’re planning tile or linoleum, just make sure the old floor is removed and don’t install the new one yet.
Install your upper and then lower cabinets. With your lower cabinets in place, you can measure and order solid surface countertops like granite or Corian.
If you haven’t already done your floors put in your tile or linoleum. Then install the countertops, appliances and sink and hook up all the plumbing and electrical.
Finally install back splashes on the walls and add any final trim details such as crown molding or window trim.
That’s it. It sounds easy but ie really weeks (months) of work. I can tell you from personal experience it pays to plan ahead and order countertops and other items as soon as possible once the preparatory steps are done so waiting on a custom piece doesn’t hold up your remodel progress.
