Replace your toilet flapper and stop your toilet from running |

This is the easiest home repair project I've ever done, I don't know why it took me a YEAR to do this! My toilet had a very slow leak from the tank. I could tell because every few minutes it would run as the tank refilled.
I finally figured out that the flapper was worn out and needed to be replaced. The hardware store carried a "universal" flapper replacement for less than $5.
To replace the flapper, I flushed the toilet and then turned off the water using the valve behind the toilet so the tank stayed empty. I detached the chain and popped off the flapper, no tools required. For my toilet I had to cut a part off the "universal" flapper and then I snapped it in place. I had to move the clip down the chain a bit to make sure the chain was taut but that was it. My toilet stopped running so I'm not wasting water and the flapper works perfectly.
If you have a minor toilet problem I encourage you to take a few minutes to diagnose it and solve it. The q&a forum in Refurber is a great resource as a
nother member recently told me how to solve my other toilet problem.
