Important advice when using Liquid Draino or chemicals to clear a clog |
|
|
I just wanted to write a little for this evenings entry regarding the use of Liquid Draino.
I have a client that has become a victim of a very expensive Liquid Draino incident.
My client lives by herself and runs a daycare out of her home so having an operative kitchen sink and dishwasher is very important to her.
One evening she fixed a Spaghetti dinner and there were a lot of noodles left over, so she packed them into the garbage disposer and started it up. VOILA instant plug! So being the good homeowner she is, she went out and purchased Liquid Draino and promptly dumped 2 1/2 jugs of it down the drain and proceeded to plunge, plunge, plunge with no results and called it a night.
The next morning she called me and asked if I could come over and unclog her drain. I went over with a snake in hand and a mindset that this would only take an hour OR SO.
Well, the Liquid Draino did its job - on the PVC glue and all of the seals. Now a full kitchen renovation later (and still in progress) she still does not have a sink or dishwasher which we are waiting on to come in.
So please be aware of the dangers of Liquid Plumber and other chemicals they are NOT as harmless as they say on the back of the jugs. If you decide to use them NEVER let the chemicals sit in your plumbing longer than the prescribed time. The disclaimer made by Liquid Plumber and the other chemical plumbers all tell you to use as directed and if they fail to clear the clog contact a plumber. HEED THEIR WARNING!!!!!!
I have seen more than one case of liquid chemicals destroying plumbing so be aware that these are strong chemicals and are to be used as DIRECTED!
(If you would like to see this renovation in progress come to my website at www.paragonrenovations.net)
I want you all to be safe and not be out of a kitchen for weeks or months so be aware that these products are not as harmless as the manufacturers seem to make them.
Good Luck and happy refurbing!!!
