Weekend Progress

This post is from from my other blog here

Major strides were made in the house this weekend, both from a cosmetic perspective and from a functionality/leak prevention perspective. Let's hope it works.

First off we called the famous $49.999 Sewerman, as recommended heartily by Tim and as seen in this not-so-snazzy promo video on YouTube

The bad news was that they were unable to get their special sewer-cleaning machine into our gas room to use—the space was too narrow width wise to work. At a later date we will cut an access panel in the wall and have them back. In the meantime, they cleaned out our sewer P-trap by hand and poured some foul smelling gunk down there to eat away at the grease. Yes, our sewer line was clogged with grease. According to the Sewerman, this happens a lot with new plumbing lines, as they are coated with grease on the inside and that can build up after a few months of all new plumbing. Hopefully this will work well enough and we won't see more rain water backing up into our basement from the main sewer line.

Also, more caulking occurred around our sunroom which is now 400% less gross and uninhabitable after a good cleaning. The cats are pleased at this turn of events.

Also on Saturday our kitchen backsplash was fully completed and looks fully shiny and awesome. We were waiting on stainless above the custom vent hood and on the backsplash of the range to hide the oven vents. Before…

And after:

Up close—I'm particularly digging the stainless stripes above the granite backsplash that really pull the whole look together.

The kitchen looks so good I could cry. It's the first room in the house to be completely done. And that is a good feeling.

We also got railings up on our stairs which is good cause I often have nightmares about our tenants falling and cracking their skulls open on our stairs. At least if it happens now it won't be our fault. Nice railing:

For our second crappy stair the basement we really just needed a railing to make the Building Department happy, so we didn't get anything so fancy.

Woo-Hoo…there is very little interior work left to do now. It can probably all be finished in another couple of days of work. The glass wall is the only big thing left to be completed so let's hope the parts come in soon so we can bang that out as well.

That is an awesome kitchen!  You must be getting excited as your project winds down.  Mine has been winding down now for about two years
