Fence Building 101

You might remember the storm of December of 2006 that took out our fence and a car and a half. We have finally begun the process of putting in the fence.

We are using 4 x 4 pressure treated posts for about 250' of the fence.

We are also using a 5' wrapped wire horse fence.  Our previous fence was welded wire and the welds really suck.  One branch falls on the top and it will pop an entire line of welds.

We rented a one man power post hole digger on Saturday.

We were going to rent a two man but the guy at hertz talked us out of it.  We have really rocky soil and apparently they toss you around if you have lots of big rocks in the soil.

Once you dig it out with the powered auger though you still have to clean it out with the hand digger.

We got all the holes dug and last night set the gate and corner posts in concrete.

Some neighbors popped over and helped us get them level and staked.

Now, the concrete needs to set up for a few days and we need to set the rest of the posts with the dirt that came out of the hole.  Then, they need to set up a bit and we can stretch the fence.

Gull_walking

My Christmas present from my husband was a four day trip of the Washington coast and rain forest.  We went through Quinault, crescent lake, Kalaloch, Ruby beach and La Push.  Part of the gift was that we got to take the dogs.  We had to pay $12 per night per dog but it was worth it.  They had so much fun and we had fun taking them on the hikes.  I put an album together of of pictures here

The weather couldn't have been better.  We actually had the storm watching package at the Kalaloch lodge but the storms were the week before.  We had sun and dry weather the entire time.  Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photos.

Sunset_1 We had some of the prettiest sunsets I have ever seen.  We also saw a lot of birds that we had not seen before in the wild.  It was very exciting.

Frog_limo At least that what our Ground Frog said yesterday.  Yes, Snohomish has a Ground Frog.  It was hilarious.

He arrived in a limo.

Frog_day As they read the proclamation he was perched in gloved hands while he "whispered" the news of our coming spring to the crier.

Frog_crowdAbout 100 folks showed up for the festivities.  Afterward there was a small "green" vendor area set up showing us ways to reduce our carbon foot print.

So, 8 more weeks of rain, fog and gloom...........that will give us plenty of time to get ready for spring.
