Hi everyone !

I am Matt and I am a co-founder of Refurber (plus the company behind Refurber called Vibe Capital).  I am a happily married fellow living in the beautiful city of Perth in Western Australia.  Great to see you on Refurber !

I am also happy to say that I have survived two reasonably intense home renovations:

The initial experience at renovating was with my very first house which I bought (with a great deal of help from the bank) at the tender age of 22 on a very busy street (make that highway) in Fremantle.  The house was built in 1910 and pretty run down at the time of purchase.  I learnt about the challenges of wooden windows, the smells associated with removing old carpet and the risks of shared sewerage lines during my 2 years renovation process (never truly completed but what renovation ever is ! )  I also got a small taste of the glorious satisfaction that comes with completing a job or project in your own house that makes it just a little more like the home that you imagined when you first toured through the place.

The second experience was a lot more recent and considerably more costly.  Over the past four years (since my return to Perth from many years abroad) I have been working on improving a 1920 house together with my wife.  This has involved a lot of personal effort but also external builders whom I have had to manage and negotiate with across a great many months.  The bathroom, kitchen and front yard in this house were all completed by paid tradesmen, fortunately for my personal pride there was also a lot of other things done by my wife and I as a team.  There are few greater tests for a relationship than a joint renovation and I am very happy that we made it through the most intensive phases together.

I very much look forward to reading the stories of other people who decide to sign up to Refurber and share some of the experiences of their own projects, renovations, building, DIY or hobby activities.  This is a community site and I welcome you all to this community !

All the best

Matt
