about me
Hi-
I'm Melissa, nice to meet you. My husband (Mr. H) and I moved into our fixer upper home in the summer of 2005 and had a baby (aka Biscuit) in the fall. Between our full time jobs and toddler wrangling, we're pretty much always working on something around the house. Mr. H is very handy and has a side business building custom furniture. He's the brains behind our home renovation team. I provide grunt work and constructive criticism ;) Actually, I really do love to learn how to do stuff so I'll be sure and share what I learn with Refuber members!

About our house. It's a post war (late 1940's) tract home in the suburbs of Sacramento, California. When we moved in, the previous owner hadn't maintained the home at all so we did a lot of work just to make it livable. That included interior paint, new floors, a new bathroom, a deck and some landscaping among other things.

Our next home challenge is a complete kitchen remodel; you can follow the progress on my Refurber blog. I also want to put in some raised bed garden boxes and redecorate my bedroom.

Besides home projects, I love to sew and craft and I've got a minor blog addiction going. You can also find me online at http://underconstructionblog.typepad.com.

Have a great day!

This post is from from my other blog here

Earlier this year I lucked out and got mailed an entire case of FREE Haagen Dazs ice cream. Five pints of their newest flavors. My favorite was the salted caramel, a flavor I'd never tried or considered. Yum!

Fast forward a few months and I was in San Francisco discussing places to eat with my resident foodie friend and learned about Bi-Rite ice cream and their famous salted caramel ice cream. Yum!

Skip ahead to last weekend when I arrived home from vacation with a sudden compulsion to make caramel and found this recipe for Fleur de Sel Caramels (aka salted caramel). ...
