ants   kitchen   nest   renovation   white

about me
He, I'm OzBinky but I normally go by O.B.

I've been in my home a little on 18 years and during this time I have had some wonderful and terrible renovations.....

My most treasured renovation was and is my kitchen.....I began with a totally white kitchen, walls, cupboards and floor - I hated it - and transformed it on a budget of virtually nothing. I designed it and a carpenter friend built it for me. I tiled the kitchen benches and walls myself and had a great time doing it.

The cupboard doors and oven area were made from scrap pine. I used floor boards, shipping creates - anything I could lay my hands on...and I think I ended with up with a unique kitchen that is 100% creatively mine...and I'm proud of it the most because it was my first attempt at anything like this.....(looking for before and after photos but will put up recent pics for time being)

The worst, well....that was the on-suite toilet my husband decided to build me. In my built in wardrobe. Yup, you read that correctly...my wardrobe and yes a toilet. I should add here that my husband was critically ill and sadly his mind wasn't what it should have been for someone so young (36).

Although I was left with a bit of a disaster zone when he passed away, I do look back and have a bit of a chuckle at the renovations he attempted to do, did and half did....

I also get on my knees and look up to the heavens and ask why at times too.....

Oh, well...this is me, this is my story, my home and now my on going project....

Cheers

OB

Front Tap Go BOOM~!!~

I had a little disaster today. It began with my neighbor and friend (also a member here - MG or monarogirl), coming over to tell me that I had water escaping from somewhere....

Long story short....the pipe from my front tap had died - apparently again.

MG and I inspected the area saturated by water and dug a little....we found that it had obviously had issue before as someone had tried to fix it. They had put a rubber tubing around the copper pipe and used hose claps to keep it secure...they then gaffer taped it - loads and loads of gaffer tape.

I managed to cut away the piping, tape and hose clamps and exposed yet another problem. My front tap had just been slid into the copper pipe and the clamps were all that was holding it together...

Well, it had obviously been working ok so far. I've been here for 18 years nearly and no issues with it so far....

I dug a further down to make sure there was no other issues with the remaining pipe and thankfully there wasn't.

I don't use the front tap at all so I decided to cap the copper pipe off and bury it. Something MG and I did - on our own and with limited tools....

If I do say so myself....we did a top job!! Don't think I'm going to be walking for a month - I used body parts I never knew I had...but the job was done and this time correctly. I think, I hope....
