Re: Annoying nails...
Okay so now my question is what kind of nails are they? Are they nails or staples that are left behind from the pad?
If they are nails what methods have you tried to pull them out? There is more than one way to skin a cat and a lot of times it takes a little finesse to get a really stubborn naiil out or if it just will not come out with a hammer then there is a tool that is usually pretty effective at "pursuading" the nails to come out.
If they are nails and are not staples then one way to get a really stubborn nail to come out is to pull it out with a sideways twist. This is kind of har to explain but basically what you do is seat the nail in the claw of the hammer and lever SIDEWAYS don't try to pull it out the conventional way. I have never come up against a nail that has beat me this way.
The other method to take out a nail or a staple is using a nippers. THese are VERY effective and again as long as you don't squeeze too hard you will get that pesky nail to come out, trust me on this one. If you do squeeze too hard what will happen is you will clip the nail/ staple and then you will be left with no choice.
I would not pound these nails back into the wood as it may cause problems down the road if you r someone else ever want to refinish the floors. In this kind of work you need to think of the time you spend in the home as your time stamp and your time stamp will or may affect the timestamp of someone else. We should be responsible and not cause problems for the next person who may come along. There are many "professionals" or hacks as I call them that do this they ram the project through and think nothin gof the next craftsman that may come along behind them only left to finish their sloopy work.
SO if you really have a nail then try the side claw manuever and if that does not work go down and get yourself a nippers after all you can never have too many tools!
Good Luck and Happy Refurbing!
